$25 Million to Help Safety Net Clinics Care for the Uninsured

With federal changes under H.R. 1 expected to cost many Marylanders their coverage, the Maryland Health Care Commission is offering $25 million in Uncompensated Care Grants to help safety net providers keep their doors open. The one-year grants go to federally qualified health centers, and to local health departments in areas without one.

Participating providers will receive a set payment for each eligible uninsured patient they see each month, with part of the money held back for quality bonuses tied to timely access and fewer avoidable ER visits. Applications are due November 9, awards are expected in December, and the grant year runs January 1 through December 31, 2027.

If you practice at a health center or refer patients to one, this is worth passing along to the people who handle grants.
