Advocacy in Annapolis
Lobby Day Recap: Scope Expansion & Insurance Red Tape
On March 4th, thirteen dedicated physicians participated in our annual Lobby Day, meeting with 17 legislative offices (either directly with legislators or their senior staff) to advocate on behalf of our patients and profession.

During our visits, we focused on several key priorities, including:

  • Prohibiting insurer downcoding and strengthening payment protections
  • Improving credentialing timelines and health plan accountability
  • Protecting physician-led care in scope of practice expansion proposals
  • Monitoring Medicaid payment rates and network adequacy standards
  • Addressing liability and tort-related legislation impacting medical practice
Physicians shared real-world examples of how these policies directly affect patient access, practice sustainability, and quality of care across Maryland. The conversations were thoughtful, substantive, and well-received.

Many of these bills will continue moving through committee, and we will be closely monitoring their progress. As the session advances, your engagement will remain critical.

Please stay alert for upcoming action alerts. We will need your voice to support or oppose key legislation to protect patient access and ensure high-quality medical care for all Marylanders.
