Specialty: Reproductive Endocrinology/Infertility
Organization: Columbia Fertility Associates

Why are you proud to be a physician?
I grew up in a house where both parents were medical professionals. My mother was a practicing OBGYN for 30 years. My mother was a role model for me. My desire to specialize in ObGYN / Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility stems from that. Reproductive Endocrinology is a dynamic and fascinating field. It continues to lead in research and newer technological advances. I love helping patients complete their families. This desire to have children is primordial and it is also very emotional. It is sad and painful to watch patients struggle with infertility at the same time.
Why are you proud to be a member of MCMS & MedChi?
I have been a member of the MCMS and MedChi for over 10 years. I have enjoyed my participation with them tremendously. They are an excellent resource for both senior physicians as well as those starting out. They are very proactive with their lobbying on behalf of the physician community. They also have a very active calendar for social and networking events. I especially look forward to their Red Dress day. I have met very interesting colleagues through them. I think it's a very important part of the physician network to be a part of such an organization.

Why are you proud to be a physician?
Primary care physicians have the important role of diagnosing patients and providing them with the resources in leading a better and healthy life. As a primary care physician, I get the honor to be the first person to guide my patients to good health. I work with amazing colleagues that have only helped my patients despite having all the pressures we have as physicians. I am proud to represent my community and proud to be a physician.
I feel proud and privileged to get the opportunity to be the" captain of the ship” for their healthcare.
I am filled with pride, joy and satisfaction when my patients express their gratitude and give me respect for taking care of their health.
Why are you proud to be a member of MCMS & MedChi?
I believe that it is very important for physicians to interact with other physicians in the community and stay up to date with the current advances in medicine. As a physician who has been practicing for 26 years, I can connect with new providers that are moving into our area and guide them to be one of the top doctors to represent our wonderful community. Also, as a member of the MedChi committee, I am fully briefed on the latest legislative agenda and able to keep up with the Medicare waiver program and the total cost of care in Maryland which benefits my patients.
I am happy to belong to the Women in Medicine, part of MCMS and remain connected to my female colleagues.
MedChi and MCMS have great programs to keep us informed about recent changes and trends in healthcare by seminars and other networking events. MedChi is very involved in legislative issues involving healthcare. As a physician member I feel secured that they are the right advocate for my medical practice and future of healthcare in Maryland.

J. Alberto Martinez, M.D.
Specialty: Ophthalmology
Organization: Visionary Eye Doctors
Phone: 301.896.0890
Why are you proud to be a physician?
I am proud to be a physician because my profession allows me to serve my fellow human beings in a direct and meaningful way. As an Ophthalmologist, I am always profoundly humbled when a person brings me their eyes, perhaps their most precious asset, for me to heal them. It takes incredible trust in someone to allow them to cut your eyes open work inside them to make them better. I have never stopped feeling profoundly blessed by my patient's trust. In turn, I bring to them a lifetime of training and the care I would give my parents or sister of children. From day one of my practice my motto has been: Advanced technology with a loving touch. We are blessed to have the most advanced technology in the planet, but this would be nothing if not applied with love. The Love is what has pushed me all my life to continually read and improve my surgical skills. The love is what allows me to approach each surgery with a sacred intention. When all of those elements are brought together, great results can be achieved.
As a young man I was not sure whether to be a Doctor or a Monk. It took me a few years to realize that the practice of medicine is a spiritual path that can lead to inner peace and enlightenment
Why are you proud to be a member of MCMS & MedChi?
I have been a member of MCMS and MedChi since day one of my practice, begun 25 years ago. MCMS helped me when I was just getting started and completely ignorant and scared of starting in private practice. Through numerous courses, seminars, lectures, online resources, etc., MCMS has been one of my the most important consultants that has allowed my practice which began part-time, subleasing space from a colleague, to an organization that has 12 doctors, 90+staff and three locations.

Why are you proud to be a physician?
I find the practice of medicine the ultimate privilege and most meaningful service one can render to one’s fellow man – the Hippocratic oath frames the commitment and principles of service and is the timeless ethical template upon which I render care to my patients.
I am proud of the education and experience that I have accumulated over thirty years of specialty practice and am pleased that these services have provided meaningful recovery and relief for those suffering from chronic neuromuscular and musculoskeletal disorders.
Why are you proud to be a member of MCMS & MedChi?
I am thankful to MCMS / MedChi and proud of them for their advocacy of physicians in support of improved services to patients and the public at large. Both of these organizations have lobbied over the years for better and more egalitarian delivery of are care to our communities. I am proud of their commitment to the welfare of patients and physicians alike.

Why are you proud to be a physician?
As a primary care physician, I can focus on both prevention and acute illness. This allows me to help patients not only when they are sick, but also while they are well; ensuring they live their healthiest lives possible. Most of us went into medicine because we wanted to help people, and despite all the difficulties with today's healthcare system, I feel I am still able to do this. My concierge practice allows me to spend time with my patients, getting to know them as individuals and being able to answer all their questions. I feel that this type of access allows me to build the kind of relationships with patients, such that I am an important part of their lives, and I am certainly proud of that.
Why are you proud to be a member of MCMS & MedChi?
After 20 years in academic medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine, I decided to open up my own practice in Bethesda, Maryland. I will admit that with no real business experience and no idea how to start a practice from scratch, I was a little nervous. MCMS and MedChi were so helpful in terms of resources provided, including helping me with all my needed insurances, as well as networking opportunities to meet my colleagues, I honestly don't think I could have done this without them. I am proud to be a part of organizations that help doctors with the non-clinical aspects of medicine, so they can do what they were trained to do: practice medicine.

Why are you proud to be a physician?
As an ophthalmologist, I’m honored to be able to help improve the quality of my patient’s lives through their eyes and vision. Witnessing the reaction of a patient after they can see again following cataract surgery is priceless. Being able to help prevent blindness or diagnose strokes and other medical diseases, with the eye exam, is extremely gratifying. I’m proud to be part of a compassionate profession that works to better lives.
Why are you proud to be a member of MCMS & MedChi?
I’m proud to belong to MCMS and MedChi, organizations that advocate for physicians and patient care. In an ever-changing healthcare landscape, it is crucial to have allies that work to protect and fight for the rights and welfare of patients and physicians.

Organization: Rockville Concierge Doctors
Phone: 301.545.1811
Why are you proud to be a physician?
As a primary care physician, I get to care for my patients not only in sickness but also when they are healthy. When they are sick, I get to diagnose and treat them from head to toe and, if I need assistance, to collaborate with a host of amazing colleagues in the area. These are some of the reasons, along with putting my patients first and working with colleagues who also put their patients first despite all of the pressures we as physicians are under, why I am proud to be a physician.
Why are you proud to be a member of MCMS & MedChi?
For me, the pride comes from the social element of these organizations. I think it’s very important for physicians to interact with other physicians outside of patient care, not only for advocacy reasons but also for the sake of our sanity. As a young physician and relative newcomer to the Montgomery County medical community, MCMS & MedChi help me stay connected.

As a fertility specialist, I have the privilege to participate in my patients’ family building journey. Everyone deserves an opportunity at parenthood and I am proud to be able to help families from around the world achieve their dream of having a family.

Organization: Ambulatory Plastic Surgery Center
Phone: 240.912.4708
Why are you proud to be a physician?
I am very proud to be a physician, because medicine is a unique profession that wonderfully blends the science and art of health care. As a plastic surgeon, we are able to provide so many interesting options for patients to help improve their function and/or appearance. While they may be similar in many respects, nearly every case is different and presents with its own unique challenges, so we are constantly striving to achieve the best results for each individual. While I have been a plastic surgeon for more than 34 years, I find that I am always learning and adapting to the latest in technology and medical advancement.
Why are you proud to be a member of MCMS & MedChi?

Angus B. Worthing M.D., FACP, FACR
Specialty: Rheumatology
Organization: Arthritis & Rheumatism Associates, PC
Phone: 301-942-7600
Why are you proud to be a physician?
The two things that make me most proud to be a physician are my ability to help people get better, and how patients honor me with the opportunity to be helpful to them. In rheumatology it's incredibly gratifying to get people back to work, back to their hobbies and daily living despite arthritis and rheumatic diseases.
Why are you proud to be a member of MCMS & MedChi?
I'm proud to be a MCMS and MedChi member because I know as a volunteer patient advocate that we as physicians need to stick together and raise our voices on behalf of our patients and our profession.
