Physicians Engaging With Their State Elected Officials

MCMS and MedChi hosted their annual Legislative Breakfast, bringing together Montgomery County physicians and members of the Maryland General Assembly for an engaging morning of discussion centered on improving access to care and strengthening the practice environment for Maryland physicians.

The physicians presented MedChi’s upcoming legislative priorities and several key issues affecting patient access and practice sustainability. They highlighted the impact of Medicaid payment cuts on practice viability and patient care, underscoring the urgent need for payment improvements. Attendees also examined the growing concerns surrounding declining access caused by insurer practices—such as downcoding, prior authorization burdens, and credentialing delays. Maintaining a stable medical liability environment was identified as another critical factor in ensuring Maryland remains a supportive place to practice medicine.

We extend our sincere thanks to all the physicians who attended and contributed their expertise, stories, and perspectives. Their engagement plays an essential role in shaping effective policy solutions.

The Legislative Breakfast once again demonstrated the importance of direct dialogue between physicians and policymakers in addressing the challenges facing Maryland’s healthcare system and improving access to care for patients across the county.
