MEDCHI APPLAUDS GOV. MOORE’S MEDICAID ANNOUNCEMENT

ANNAPOLIS – March 20, 2023 —MedChi, The Maryland State Medical Society,
applauds Governor Wes Moore’s announcement today that he will not be carrying
through the Federal Medicare physician payment cuts to the State Medicaid program.

Gene Ransom, CEO of MedChi, cheered the decision, saying “Considering the impact on
communities affected by lack of access to health care services as well as socioeconomic
inequities and health disparities, the need to ensure robust Medicaid practitioner networks
is inescapable. MedChi applauds this move today by Governor Moore. It shows that he
is clearly working to leave no one behind.”

Maryland tied the State Medicaid program to Medicare several years ago, but the State
retained the authority to make adjustments. This announcement comes as the budget
process concludes over the next few weeks in Annapolis. (full press release here)
